Second Solo

Objectives

  • Fly the second supervised solo in the local traffic pattern

  • Gain confidence in conducting airport operations, including takeoff, traffic pattern, approach and landing procedures, as well as collision avoidance and radio communications.

Session Details

This should be a repeat of the first solo, with a few small changes. This one will not be a surprise. There may be some dual at the start, at the discretion of the instructor. Also, there will be no request to just do three landings, and the student may (with the instructor’s agreement) spend as much time in the pattern as they wish.

The usual admonishments apply. If you don’t like an approach, go around. If some other aspect of the landing goes awry (someone pulls out on you, someone cuts you off in the pattern, etc.) terminate the approach and safely go back to try again.

This is to be a confidence and experience building exercise.
